can changes in our diet discourage cancer tumours from forming

The Amino acid “asparagine” has been targeted in cancer treatment for over 50 years using a drug called “L-asparaginase” New research shows this drug together with a change in diet may be helpful

Asparagine is essential for the normal functioning of cells and is produced naturally by the body, it is also absorbed from foods including asparagus, potatoes, dairy, beef, poultry, eggs, seafood,  nuts, seeds, soy, legumes and whole grains.  However most fruit and vegetables contain very little.

New research by Cambridge University oncologist Greg Hannon found that when "the drug was given to mice with triple-negative breast cancer, mutant cells were far less likely to invade other parts of the body. But when the rodents received food rich in asparagine, the cancer cells spread more rapidly"

This led to the possibility of treatment by L-asparaginase being enhanced by a change in diet.

Unfortunately there is a lot more work to be done before it can be deemed a cure and we will try to update you on further developments
